I just had the most amazing morning kayaking out on the Gulf of Mexico. I was leaving right after breakfast and the sun was still pretty low in the sky and it makes the water sparkle and bird island had this glow to it. There are always dolphins near bird island because there are so many fish so whenever I'm out there I'm always on edge wondering where one will pop up. Sometimes you'll see them out in the distance and sometimes they will just come out of nowhere and surprise you. I never get tired of seeing them either.
This morning was one of the coolest though. I was on my way back towards the house after going out to this little island with a deserted beach when I saw 2 dolphins about 100 yards away. I start to paddle towards that direction and all of the sudden I see one half the distance from before coming straight towards me and it pokes his head out of the water to look at me. Then it did it again only 20 feet from me! I got a little nervous for a minute. These guys have been jumping into fishing boats breaking ankles down here recently. They could destroy me in my little kayak. All ended well and I just sat and watched and listened to some Xavier Rudd on my ipod and enjoyed the morning. There were about 15 out that day all playing in this area for awhile. It was pretty magical.
